Two Weeks Left to Apply!

Dear Friends and Associates,
Earlier today, I was visiting with a new friend, Marianne Gronemeyer, an octogenarian who has been active in pacifist resistance and a scholar of the history of needs. She told about how, this past winter, there was a conspicuous absence of good tidings for the new year in the holiday cards she received from loved ones. The well-wishes were subdued, as though it had become obscene to be too enthusiastic or merry under contemporary circumstances. Her response was to put out an invitation for everyone—friends, associates, and strangers in her town—to gather regularly in her living room and talk about the many upheavals affecting them. To share their feelings, their concerns, their divergent perspectives, and their ideas with one another. Regardless of their differences, she told me, many were surprised to find their concerns were shared, and all agreed it was better to proceed together than alone.
Coming together, in person, to eat, work, listen, and think, is a crucial first step in developing the relations that sustain us in times of crisis. This summer, we’ll be doing just that over three weeks on Manitoulin Island, exploring questions around the theme of Friendship in an Age of Crisis. While spots are limited, this program is open to all.
Come join us as we work to build community and pursue disciplined discussion, as Marianne calls it, in a convivial atmosphere, all while taking concrete actions towards a more ecologically just future.
There are just two weeks left to apply!
Best,
Philippe
