Last Call - Summer Humanities Program 2026

“A table is the occasion for the gathering of friends engaged in serious inquiry on matters that have a direct bearing on how they live,” writes Samar Farage on the practice of philosophy as pursued by Ivan Illich.
This summer, GLIPH is setting the table on Manitoulin Island for such a gathering. And what better topic to consider than friendship itself, in a time when many political and environmental certainties are being radically overturned? Our personal relationships, built on trust and dependence, are likely to be our greatest resource in the coming years.

A few weeks ago, we proposed a few framing questions for how to think through friendship in a time of crisis. If these ideas speak to you or someone you know, don’t wait to apply to the GLIPH 2026 Summer Humanities Program. There are only two days left to do so.
As participants of Cassiciacum on Manitoulin, we will collectively put together a reading list, and spend three weeks together on a permaculture homestead tending the land and engaging in collaborative scholarship. We will make visits to natural landmarks on the island and local community organizations.

And finally, we at GLIPH have saved a few surprises to be announced over the coming weeks!

Looking forward to continuing the conversation.
Best,
