🗨️ A Fun Community Hangout for Rubyists
Javier Cervantes & co. have launched something quite inspiring. By Jared White
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely thrilled any time there are some good vibes showing up in the Ruby scene. And that’s why I’m excited I get to tell you about the Ruby Users Forum.
No, this isn’t a sponsored post or anything like that, I swear!
I’m simply here because Javier Cervantes & co. have launched something quite inspiring, and I’m glad I get to join in.
The Ruby Users Forum is a Discourse-based discussion website for Ruby developers, and sure that starts out being pretty much what you might except. But it gets even better than that, because Javier has been recruiting various open source projects & maintainers around the Ruby ecosystem to come have a presence on the site which I think is extremely nifty—especially with regards to “alternative” Ruby web frameworks.
We (that is, the Bridgetown framework) now have a dedicated tag on the forum, but there are many others:
brut (a web framework built by Dave Copeland)
refinements (augment and enhance Ruby primitives, by Brooke Kuhlmann)
taylor (a small game engine built for ease of use & developer happiness by Sean Earle)
And many more as you can see here.
I know for a lot of folks (myself definitely included) it’s important to seek out and participate in spaces which feel well-moderated & safe, and from what I’ve seen of the Ruby Users Forum so far (and who Javier is as a person), this is indeed the case.
So yeah, that’s about all I have to say about that. 😄 I expect I’ll be spending time there personally, and thought it’d be a good opportunity to spread the word here for y’all.
Ruby Users Forum…check it out! ✌️
BTW, I’ll be back soon with some big Bridgetown-based announcements, so stay tuned for that. A couple of hints: prepare to start [[typing lots of square brackets]] as you settle into the “theme” of things. 😉
Cya l8r!

Q: What Ruby Concept Took You the Longest to Understand?
Sean: yield by a wide margin 😆
(ed.note. I must admit, that one tripped me up for a long time in my early Ruby days as well…)
