๐ก New Sources for Gems, Intuitive Expectations, rv, and Ruby 4
I love seeing modern Ruby infrastructure coming online with fresh ideas and a healthy perspective on the future of the ecosystem. By Jared White
Hello Ruby friends!
Sure been a lot happening in Ruby-land lately, and I'm talking about the good stuff. ๐ As I mentioned in the previous issue of Fullstack Ruby, the Bridgetown 2 framework is here and not only that, we've already landed the first beta of Bridgetown 2.1! In addition, we brought Felipe Vogel onboard as a new core team member and he's already been making waves. ๐
In other news, Hanami 2.3 was released as expected, and with it a host of improvements and a lot of DX niceties. Seems like a lot of folks are giving Hanami a serious look now and pitching in to sand off rough edges as they look to migrate away from a certain track-themed framework. ๐ You love to see it.
There's also the annual Christmastime release of a new Ruby version fast approaching, and guess what? It's going to be version 4 in honor of the 30th anniversary of Ruby. (Er, not the 40th anniversary? ๐ค) In spite of the major number bump, it's not an action-packed releaseโฆmostly under-the-hood improvements. (But some of those are really nice.)
And now, bringing you up to speed on the latest from the Fullstack Ruby blog (apologies, it's been a while since the last newsletter!):
๐ Little Content Tricks for Your Bridgetown Website
Embeds for video links, lazy images, and other enhancements are only a small builder away.
๐ Buckle Up, Thereโs a New Gem Server in Town: gem.coop
New modern Ruby infrastructure coming online by the folks who were unceremoniously kicked out of Ruby Central. (psst: I've been using gem.coop on a bunch of projects lately, and it rocks!)
๐ Donโt Make Me Think Principle, Testing, and Intuitive Expectations
A new extension to Minitest Expectations by yours truly is the perfect illustration for this philosophy of programming.
And finallyโฆ
๐ The โrvโ Tool is Making Swift Progress, Becoming a Must-Have for Rubyists
Contributors are brushing up on their Rust and launching new, fast tools. Iโm excited to see where that leads the Ruby ecosystem.

๐ค๐ฉ๏ธ Things that make you think: ๐ก๐
My advice to the juniors of 2025 is plain and simple: Show, Donโt Tell.
Show me what you can do, rather than giving me a list of tools. A Luthier and I both know how to use a saw, but only one of us knows how to make a guitar. The proof is in the doing, not the telling.
