Beef Time, Spring 2025

Spring 2025 is quite something already. The grass is epic, and the humans need some nourishment. As a culture, we’ve entered a liminal space where we are a bit uncertain, ungrounded, uprooted. To find our way, we need to breathe, and to root. We need to nourish each other, and to eat together, to understand each other better. We hope that our beef can do that for you and yours.

Our own herd of black and red Angus cattle, relaxing with full bellies on a foggy afternoon in green grass.
Happy bellies, with more grass for their next visit to this pasture.

Quarters and sides are sold out for spring, with many thanks to our regulars for stocking up! We are scheduling one more harvest in July, and we will open for preorders as soon as that’s confirmed. In the meantime, please email us if you already know you want a spot on that list.

Announcements

Back at Bill's! Bill's Farm Basket in Sebastopol will at long last be restocked by the first week of May, with infinite gratitude for your patience. Delicious.

Occidental Farm Market starts May 22! Look for us there this summer and fall. Very excited to offer individual cuts for sale there, plus cooking tips and questions answered in person.

Boxes will be available in mid May, for preorder on our website, to pick up at Lepe's or at the Farm Market.

Context and Coherence

We create living sponges in our watersheds to build soil, store water, mitigate wildfires, provide habitat and restore ancient human food systems.

A core idea is that much of the knowledge that shaped California’s ecosystems has been lost, at least within the modern agricultural community. We need to use reverse engineering to rebuild our human relationship with our wild kin.

Can you feel the creekbed calling?

We can walk between worlds, building bridges and nourishing each other on the way.

Our beef is just the beginning of our deep rooted commitment to caring for the land and the water that sustain us. Our main IG showcases our land care work, and @freestoneranchbeef announces beef sales. You will already be in the know, since you're here! We wish you nourishment with every delicious bite.

We’ve moved our newsletter off Mailchimp to Buttondown, a sweet indie system. You already know we are all about bridging worlds to support connection with the land and the habitat around us. We also want to bridge worlds between farm and fork, human and biome, indie beef and direct market. The mycelium connects us, and each delicious bite reminds us of the miracle of being alive.

In gratitude, every day, we are dedicated to the land.
