Day 146. The most revealing American deployment this week may not be a bomber or a special operator. It may be the more than 150 medics newly sent to Landstuhl, the hospital in Germany where Americans wounded in the Middle East are brought first.
Special Operations forces are moving toward the region. Fighter squadrons are staging closer. Bombers are on alert. None of that proves a larger operation has been ordered. It does mean somebody has been told to make one possible—and to prepare the beds if it goes badly.
Pete Hegseth keeps reaching for the same reassurance: the best military in the world. Fine. “Best” is capability. “Enough” is inventory. Twelve consecutive nights of strikes have already consumed weapons that cannot be available somewhere else until production catches up. The precise stockpile is classified, which makes the swagger easy and the arithmetic impossible for the public to check.
Surging medics is prudent. It is also an admission that the next set of “options” may put more Americans in hospital beds. Weapons advertise capability. Medical capacity anticipates consequences.
The label says best in the world. The question is how much remains in the bottle when unexpected company arrives.

Brent Crosses $100 as a Tanker Burns at Hormuz and Houthis Blockade the Red Sea Detour
Brent crude pushed past $101 a barrel Thursday — its first $100 cross since late May and a gain of more than 6% on the day — after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said a tanker caught fire on the mined southern route past the Strait of Hormuz and declared the waterway “completely closed.” At the other end of the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen’s Houthis kept up a three-day-old blockade of Saudi shipping at Bab el-Mandeb, claiming missile and drone hits on two Saudi tankers and ten vessels turned back. Both exits for roughly a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil are now contested. WTI followed to $91; Goldman called its $100 Brent scenario “back in play.”

Pentagon Sends B-1 Bombers From Britain; Trump Threatens a Bridge for Every Ship Attack
A B-1B Lancer flew from a UK base Tuesday to strike IRGC command posts, maritime radar and drone storage — the first long-range bomber mission since the war resumed and a signal the campaign is widening, not winding down. Trump followed with a Truth Social post promising to destroy one Iranian bridge or power plant, “including those in the Capital City of Tehran,” each time Iran fires on a ship in the strait. Foreign Minister Araghchi answered: “eye for an eye.”

Iran’s overnight retaliation reached three US partners again: drones hit Kuwait’s Al-Abdali crossing with Iraq, setting a fire the army said it contained without casualties; sirens sent Bahrainis to shelters; and Jordan’s military engaged four missiles and six drones, with one warhead falling in open desert. The pattern holds — Tehran answers US strikes by hitting the hosts, not Israel.

The fourth Rubio–Lavrov meeting since 2025, held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum, produced no movement toward a Ukraine settlement in roughly 35 minutes. Lavrov restated Moscow’s readiness for “political and diplomatic” talks on the terms set in Alaska last August; Russia kept hitting Odesa’s port while Kyiv sent long-range drones into Russian territory.
