Day 147. Trump told Axios that Iran “hasn’t received enough pain yet.” Strip away the briefings and there it is: an objective replaced by a sensation.

After thirteen consecutive nights of U.S. strikes, Tehran has rejected two truce proposals. Iran’s foreign minister says continued attacks will bring Trump a “heavier price.” Washington reads Iran’s refusal as proof it hasn’t used enough force. Tehran reads each new strike as a reason to hit back harder. Both sides call the cycle leverage.

A strategy needs a condition under which it has worked, and another under which it has failed. “Enough pain” supplies neither. It can justify the next strike forever while explaining nothing about the morning after.

Thirteen rounds in, both sides keep ordering doubles. The furniture should probably start getting nervous.

ESCALATION
Trump Says He’s Close to a Call on a “Massive Attack” as Iran Turns Down Two Truces
Trump told Axios he is weighing strikes “bigger than ever before,” arguing Tehran “hasn’t received enough pain yet” to deal. Iran refused two offers this week — a US proposal hand-carried by Iraq’s prime minister and a Qatari 10-day truce trading a bombing halt for two open Hormuz shipping lanes — saying a temporary deal that leaves control of the strait unresolved is not one it wants. CENTCOM logged a 13th consecutive night of strikes early Friday around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm; Brent eased to $97 after Thursday’s triple-digit settle.
BRITAIN
RAF Fairford Lands on Tehran’s Target List After B-1 Runs From British Soil
The Revolutionary Guards named the Gloucestershire base a “legitimate target” and called Britain an “accomplice,” declaring any UK base that launches American strikes fair game. The same week, EA-37B electronic-attack jets arrived at Fairford — the base is filling up, not emptying out.

Iranian Drones Reach Bahrain and Jordan; Blasts Sound Near Erbil’s Airport
Iran’s army said overnight drone strikes hit US military facilities in Bahrain and Jordan, and several explosions were reported near Erbil’s airport, home to US-led coalition troops in Iraqi Kurdistan. For a second week, Tehran’s answer to strikes on its coastline runs through its neighbors’ airspace.
ASIA
Asia’s Refiners Weigh Cutting Runs 20–30% as Gulf Crude Gets Costlier to Move
China took 5.35 million barrels a day through Hormuz before the war — the strait’s biggest customer — and large refiners in China and Japan are weighing processing cuts of 20–30% as war-risk insurance and near-record tanker rates swamp any discount on the crude itself. Asian refining margins sit at a four-year high.
MARKETS
Earnings Bite: Alphabet and Tesla Sink the Nasdaq 2.2%
Thursday’s selloff was only partly an oil story: Alphabet fell 7% on AI-spending worries and Tesla 14% after earnings, while rising yields pushed the S&P 500 down 1.2% to 7,408 and took 507 points off the Dow. Futures firmed early Friday, with a Fed meeting on next week’s calendar.
SENATE
“Patience Is Running Out”: White House Turns on Thune Over Stalled Elections Bill
Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump’s patience with the Senate majority leader is “running out” after the SAVE America Act — proof-of-citizenship registration plus photo ID — stalled through at least five floor votes. Thune’s reply: Leavitt or “somebody else” should “get on the phone and get the votes.”
SPORTS
Mariners Open at First-Place Texas Tonight; Seahawks Veterans Report to Camp
Seattle opens a weekend set in Arlington at 5:05 PT, one game behind the Rangers in the AL West after Thursday’s off day. In Renton, the defending-champion Seahawks took veterans’ report day; Saturday’s first open practice is sold out.
