Escribo estas líneas en pijama, a punto de rozar el mediodía y sin más planes que cocinar una tortilla de patatas y enviar este boletín. Como empieza a ser costumbre, vuelvo a él con poco tiempo para escribir y demasiados temas de los que quiero hablar. Es lo mismo que me pasa con mis papeles (ya sea ephemera, dibujos o facturas); cuando no cierra el cajón, significa que ha llegado el momento de clasificar.
Hace unos días añadí una nueva sección a mi estantería y ya casi está llena. ¿Cómo puede ser? De adolescente pensaba que, cuando tuviese una casa, sería muy minimalista, y durante esos años me desprendí de muchas cosas de las que ahora me arrepiento (como mi colección de catálogos de juguetes de El Corte Inglés). Por suerte acabé entendiendo que no soy ese tipo de persona antes de tirar cosas más importantes. Me encantan los objetos, me gusta mucho archivar.
Leyendo Hija única de Carlota Visier me sentí muy identificada con esa obsesión de su familia por guardarlo todo. Mi familia no se parece mucho a la suya; en general no son muy de preservar la historia personal, algo de lo que siempre me lamento con mi hermana Coral, otra fetichista de la historia de los objetos (menos mal que las dos salimos igual).
Puede que influenciada por el libro de forma inconsciente, en mi última visita a casa de mis padres decidí traerme toda mi correspondencia de la juventud. Todavía no he empezado a leerla, pero planeo hacerlo y escanear todo. ¡Lo que daría por tener las cartas que yo mandé! Me pregunto si todavía existirán.

I'm writing these lines in my pajamas, just about to hit noon, with no plans beyond making a Spanish omelette and sending this newsletter. As is becoming the norm, I return to it with little time to write and too many topics I want to talk about. It's the same with my papers (ephemera, drawings, bills) when the drawer won't close anymore, it's a sign that it's time to sort everything out.
A few days ago I added a new section to my bookshelf, and it's already almost full. How is that even possible? As a teenager, I thought that when I had a house, I would be very minimalist, and during those years I got rid of many things that I now regret (like my collection of toy catalogs from El Corte Inglés). Luckily, I eventually realized that I'm not that kind of person before throwing more important things away. I love objects; I love keeping an archive.
While reading Only Daughter by Carlota Visier, I found myself deeply relating to her family's obsession with preserving everything. My family is nothing like hers; in general, they are not very good at preserving personal history, something my sister Coral and I often complain about. She's just as fascinated by the history of objects as I am (thankfully, we both turned out the same).
Perhaps unconsciously influenced by the book, during my last visit to my parents' house I decided to bring back all my letters from my childhood and teenage years. I haven't started reading them yet, but I plan to go through everything and scan it all. What I wouldn't give to have the letters I wrote! I wonder if they still exist.

✈️ Berlin, meine Liebe

El día 10 de julio me subiré a un avión rumbo a Berlín y, nuevamente, pasaré allí gran parte del verano. Mejor no me preguntes cuántas cámaras llevo; en mi mente tiene todo el sentido del mundo. Mi plan para estas semanas es hacer muchas fotos, dibujar, escribir y editar nuevos fanzines. A finales de agosto Javier y yo compartiremos mesa en el festival de autoedición Flyleaf y, si todo va bien, presentaré alguna de esas novedades en las que estoy trabajando.

On July the 10th, I'm catching a plane to Berlin, and once again, I'll be spending a good part of the summer there. Don't ask me how many cameras I'm taking; it all makes perfect sense to me. My plan for these weeks is to take lots of photos, draw, write, and edit new fanzines. At the end of August, Javier and I will be sharing a table at the Flyleaf self-publishing festival, and if all goes well, I'll be presenting some of the new things I'm working on.

📚 Novedades fanzineras

En mayo lancé dos novedades, Es bueno no hacer nada y luego descansar, un micro fanzine sobre mi relación con el trabajo y Un paseo por Valencia, un pack de postales con una carta ilustrada sobre el tiempo que viví en Valencia.
El fanzine es en realidad un A4 plegado que acaba convirtiéndose en un A7, un formato muy divertido para imprimir en casa (si no has hecho nunca uno de estos, aquí tienes las instrucciones). Me parece que voy a hacer muchos más de estos fanzines, ya que me permiten compartir páginas de mis diarios sin darle muchas vueltas ni almacenar montones de fanzines en el armario. Lo mismo con el pack de postales -las cartas las imprimo en casa y me encanta decidir qué fotos van a ir en cada pack, ya que no hay dos iguales. El primer pack fue de Japón, el segundo de Valencia y ya tengo otro nuevo entre manos. ¿Qué fotos te gustaría ver en el siguiente?

In May I released two new publications: It's Good to Do Nothing and Then Have a Rest, a micro-fanzine about my relationship with work, and A Walk Through Valencia, a pack of postcards with an illustrated letter about the time I lived in Valencia.
The fanzine is actually a folded A4 sheet that ends up being an A7, a really fun format to print at home (if you've never done one of these before, here are the instructions). I think I'm going to make many more of these fanzines, as they allow me to share pages from my diaries without much fuss or having stacks of zines in the closet. The same goes for the postcard pack. I print the letters at home and I love deciding which photos will go in each pack, since no two are alike. The first pack was from Japan, the second from Valencia, and I already have another new one in the works. What photos would you like to see in the next one?

🌞 Part Time Holidays

Siendo autónoma, eso de las vacaciones es un poco mentira, pero aprovecho para avisarte de que en julio y agosto pausaré las ventas de mi tienda online. El lunes 6 de julio es el último día para hacer pedidos a través de ko-fi. Como de costumbre, los pedidos personalizados seguirán abiertos y estoy disponible para sesiones de fotos en Berlín.

Being self-employed, the whole idea of taking a vacation is a bit of a joke, but I wanted to let you know that I'll be pausing sales in my online shop throughout July and August. Monday, July 6th, is the last day to place orders through ko-fi. As usual, custom orders via email will remain open, and I’m available for photoshoots in Berlin.

Inspirada por Andrea Galaxina, he empezado a archivar y compartir mis fanzines descatalogados en Internet Archive. De momento encontrarás los siguientes títulos disponibles para leer y descargar:

• Diario de lo que aconteció la semana del 29 de mayo al 4 de junio de 2023 (coincidiendo con el Primavera Sound), 2023

Los tres primeros son de ficción, sin apenas texto, un poco diferentes a lo que hago ahora (algún día volveré a este formato, que me sigue encantando). El último es un diario, claro, y en realidad nunca lo imprimí, solo lo distribuí en formato digital.

• Diary of What Happened the Week of May 29 to June 4, 2023 (Coinciding with Primavera Sound), 2023

The first three are fiction, with very little text, a bit different from what I do now (someday I'll return to this format, which I still love). The last one is a diary, of course, and I never actually printed it; I only distributed it digitally.

Una, dentro de Friends with Cameras, en la que charlé con Luis Yang sobre fotografía y fanzines. La otra, con Xavier, Isabel y Alba, artesanos especializados en la restauración de sillas a quienes retraté en su taller.
Y, spoiler, esta semana publicaré una nueva entrevista con Laura C. Vela y Carlota Visier, autoras y editoras de Comisura, a quienes también fotografié hace poquito. Iba a retrasar el boletín para incluirla, pero chica, lo cuento ya y listo. Te dejo hasta el link, aunque no funcionará hasta ¿el miércoles? Sí, probablemente la publique el miércoles.

Since my last newsletter, I've published two new interviews on the blog.
One is part of Friends with Cameras, where I chatted with Luis Yang about photography and zines. The other, with Xavier, Isabel and Alba, artisans specializing in chair restoration, whom I photographed in their workshop.
And, spoiler alert: this week I'll be publishing a new interview with Laura C. Vela and Carlota Visier, authors and editors behind Comisura, whom I also photographed just a little while ago. I was going to delay this newsletter so I could include it, but, but I figured I could just tell you now instead. I'll even leave the link here, although it won't work until… Wednesday? Yeah, probably Wednesday.
