Your August update from EntryThingy (portfolio, video & artist invites)
A busy month on our end. Here is what is new for you:
Your portfolio is now a real website
We rebuilt the portfolio site builder from the ground up. You can now choose from different themes and layouts, add a tagline, and toggle prices on or off depending on how you want to present your work.

Your portfolio has always been shareable. Now it looks professional enough to share with anyone. So you can send it to a gallery, add it to your email signature, or post it on social media.
To find the URL, go to My Art, then Portfolio. Your public link is right there at the top of the page.

If you have not set up your public portfolio yet, it takes a few minutes and it is free. And if you want your statement and bio to make the right impression, check our artist statement examples and artist bio examples.
Your weekly recommendations now include galleries you have applied to before
Every week, we recommend calls we think are a good match for your practice. Those recommendations now flag galleries you have already submitted to, so you can spot returning opportunities more easily.
Galleries remember artists who come back. Our art call acceptance rates study shows that artists with 4 to 10 submissions reach 78.5% acceptance, compared to 58.3% for first-timers.
If a gallery felt right before, it probably still does. And if you have ever thought why strong work still gets passed over, our guide on why artists get rejected from art calls covers the most common fixable reasons.
Video uploads now show a real preview
Until now, video pieces on EntryThingy showed a generic icon instead of a preview image. Not the strongest first impression when a gallery or juror is browsing your work.
That is fixed.
Every video you upload now automatically generates a still frame from the footage and uses it as the thumbnail, across your portfolio, entry pages, and any gallery website with an embedded showcase.
New uploads show the preview straight away. Older video pieces may still show the generic icon for now while we work through those.
Invite other artists to shows you are applying to
At the end of your application, you can now invite peer artists to the same call. If you find a show that fits your practice, chances are it fits someone you know too.
Most artists find out about good calls through other artists. Now you can do that directly from your application, without copying links or sending separate emails.
Just add their name at the end and they get an invitation to check it out.

That is everything for August. As always, reply to this email and you will reach us directly. We read every message.
