Microwaved Steak for Lunch
On leftovers.
I had this moment—I had to laugh—looking down at my plate and wondering if I should have done it better. Unevenly warmed-over slices of meat, a few veggies blistered with yesterday’s grill marks.
Perhaps in a pan? Maybe sizzled up with some eggs on the side? A little more care would’ve gone a long way, returned a once-delicious meal to its former glory. Done it a bit of justice, at the very least.
And me! No less worthy of little luxuries than any other. Why, trading for convenience, would I deprive myself a treat? No, I thought, next time I would remember. How I’d rather move through the world. The rewards I could reap and sow.
P.S.— Tomorrow (May 30) is my birthday and I’ll be turning the ripe old age of 38, which honestly is great and I’m very happy about it. A gift!! Seriously!!!
In honor of my trip around the sun, I’ll be in Montreal visiting a v. beloved friend and on a brief Enthusiasms vacation next week. Regular programming returns mid-June.
‘till then! Be good out there. <3 J
