Good morning, Emmett. Here's what happened around town this week.

CITY & COUNTY

A grass and brush fire near Sweet grew to about 150 acres over the weekend before crews contained it by 8 p.m. and brought it under control later that night. Gem County Fire District No. 2, the Idaho Department of Lands and the Bureau of Land Management responded, and the fire is now being monitored. The cause remains under investigation.

A 63-year-old Ontario, Oregon, woman died in a single-vehicle rollover on Sweet-Ola Highway near milepost 10 on Sept. 11, Idaho State Police said. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt; the highway was closed in both directions for about three hours while crews worked. The crash remains under investigation.

SCHOOLS

The Emmett School District board voted Sept. 10 to form a community committee to study the future of Emmett High School. The group will gather input on whether the district should repair the aging domes or work toward a new school; the board has not chosen either option or decided whether to seek a bond. Members and a chair have not been selected yet, and the district plans to invite feedback through ParentSquare and a community newsletter.

SPORTS

Emmett girls soccer beat Nampa 5-0 on Sept. 14. MaxPreps named Paige Griggs the player of the match, and the Huskies were listed at 5-2-1 heading into Thursday’s home matches with Ridgevue and Fruitland.

The volleyball team lost 3-1 to Weiser on Sept. 15. MaxPreps listed Emmett at 3-5 heading into Thursday night’s home match with McCall-Donnelly.

Football remained 3-0 after its Sept. 3 win over American Falls. The Huskies’ next game is Friday at Gooding.
