Good morning, Emmett. Here's what happened around town this week.

CITY & COUNTY

Gem County commissioners unanimously upheld approval of the Premier Spring Creek South gravel pit on Tuesday, rejecting an appeal from nearby residents. The project is about five miles northeast of Emmett near Spring Creek Road and State Highway 52; its footprint was reduced from 223 acres to about 61 acres after the developer removed a second phase. The approval includes conditions on the entrance, road maintenance and improvements, truck staging, dust, blasting hours, berms and water protections. A written decision will be prepared for publication.

SCHOOLS

About 15 to 20 parents and 10 to 12 students attended Tuesday's forum on the future of Emmett High School's dome buildings. The district said the engineering assessment puts repairs at up to $27 million; discussion at the meeting also put full repairs around $25 million and a new high school at roughly $45 million to $50 million. The district has not chosen between repairing the domes and building a new school, and no bond is planned for the November ballot. Superintendent Craig Woods said he wants a community committee to study the options, with a decision possible before the end of the year and the earliest bond vote potentially in May.

DEVELOPMENT

The Emmett City Council unanimously denied all three applications for the proposed River Bend Place subdivision after a public hearing Tuesday. The plan called for 96 townhome lots and two common lots on more than 10 acres near East 12th Street, with lots ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet. Residents raised concerns about drainage, safety, open space and the developer's track record, while supporters pointed to the need for more affordable housing.

SPORTS

Emmett football stayed unbeaten with a 20-3 win over American Falls on Sept. 3, moving to 3-0. Eli Brennan completed 5 of 8 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown, then rushed for 81 yards and two more scores. Jax Banuelos caught Brennan's 21-yard touchdown pass.

The girls soccer team beat Weiser 1-0 on Sept. 8. Volleyball lost 3-1 to Homedale on Sept. 4; the Huskies were scheduled to play at Cole Valley Christian on Thursday evening.
