Good morning, Emmett. Here's what happened around town this week.

CITY & COUNTY

The Emmett City Council approved a $12,264,230 budget for the city’s 2027 fiscal year at its Aug. 25 meeting. The figure covers the city’s planned operating expenses and expected revenue for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.

Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash reported Sept. 2 on Montour Road near State Highway 52, east of Emmett. Police said a Ford Excursion rolled after the driver overcorrected on a curve; a 45-year-old Great Falls man died at the scene, and a 42-year-old Emmett man was flown to a hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

SCHOOLS

The Emmett School District will hold a community forum about the future of the high school domes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Butte View Boardroom. The meeting is for public input following the engineering assessment that found the domes need major work but do not pose an immediate safety threat.

COMMUNITY

The Gem County Chamber has posted dates for the 33rd Annual Emmett Harvest Festival Street Fair: Friday, Sept. 25, from noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The free event will fill Main Street between Hayes Avenue and Boise Avenue with vendors and family activities.

Registration for the Rotary Club of Emmett’s fourth annual Tim Fleming Memorial Golf Tournament is open through Wednesday, Sept. 9. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Gem County Golf Course.

SPORTS

Emmett beat Preston 47-21 on Aug. 28 to move to 2-0. Eli Brennan threw for 216 yards and four touchdowns, ran for 95 yards and another score, and completed 84.6% of his passes. Jax Banuelos added 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The girls soccer team is listed with a 1-0 win over Payette on Aug. 27, giving Emmett a 2-0-1 record. In volleyball, the Huskies lost 3-0 to The Ambrose School on Aug. 28, then bounced back with a 3-1 win at Payette on Sept. 2.
