Levy Fails — Voters Reject Supplemental by 52-48
The Emmett School District's $2.3 million per year supplemental levy was rejected by voters on Tuesday, with 52% opposed and 48% in favor. The two-year measure needed a simple majority to pass.
It's the headline story of the week, and it sets the district up for some hard decisions. As the superintendent previewed at the April school board meeting, a levy failure means cuts to personnel, supplies, athletics, and assistant coaching positions. With about 78% of the district's budget tied to personnel, staffing is where the squeeze will be felt first.
Emmett wasn't alone — Middleton, Payette, Marsh Valley, and Council districts all saw supplemental levies fail Tuesday, though the majority of Idaho supplemental levies on the ballot did pass.
We'll cover the board's response and any budget revisions in the weeks ahead. The annual budget hearing is still set for June 15 at 4:00 PM at the Butte View Complex.
EHS Graduation Is Tomorrow
The Emmett High School Class of 2026 graduates Friday, May 22 at 10:00 AM at the EHS football stadium. Congratulations to the seniors and their families.

Election Notes
Statewide turnout for Tuesday's primary was solid. We're still waiting on official certified results for the Gem County Commissioner District 1 Republican primary between Paul Anderson, Scott Johnson, and Chris Oesterreich — we'll have those next week.

Softball: A Season That Showed Real Promise
The Emmett softball season came to a close on May 7 with a hard-fought 5-4 home loss to Skyview. The Huskies finished 8-14 overall and 5-9 in conference play, finishing sixth in 5A Southern Idaho.
The team closed strong with three wins in their final five games, including a 10-0 home win over Caldwell on May 4 and the 6-1 conference tournament win over Bishop Kelly on May 6 — the team that had handed them an 18-2 blowout just two weeks earlier.
It was a season with real bright spots: Avery Reynolds' 4 home runs and team-leading 28 RBIs, Oakley Scheibe's all-around production at the plate and on the mound, and the breakout freshman year from Maci Haskins. With most of the core returning next year — Scheibe, Reynolds, Haskins, Scott, Gragg, Ford, and others — the foundation for 2027 looks strong.
Baseball's regular season has been over for several weeks. No further postseason games are listed for either program.
