Postkort fra 2047: The Open Transport Museum

The Open Transport Museum

The Open Transport Museum opened its fifth wing this month—except it's not a museum, it's the metro. Every train, bus, and ferry in Copenhagen runs on fully open-source code, hardware schematics public domain since 2041. Started when a transit strike turned into a hackathon; commuters fixed the scheduling algorithm overnight, council couldn't ignore seventy thousand pull requests.

Now the carriages have diagnostic ports anyone can plug into. Kids learn systems design watching real-time network graphs projected on station walls. Århus forked our bus protocol, improved it, we merged the changes back. Helsinki runs a modified version.

Lars complains the trains "lack professional polish." He's on the routing committee. Submitted nine improvements last year.

The system is maintained by the people who use it. Turns out that works.

Visiting soon?

Igor
