Season 2 of Miscellaneous Materials continues. Going through all the stuff I collected in 2020 — but never sent!!! This is the 014th collection of semi-random documents known as “Miscellaneous Materials”
Current CO2 PPM: 415.44 PPM
MM014 is the collection that I collected in April of 2020. There is a tiny bit about covid response, virtual teaching, the requisite few climate change and sustainability pdfs, cross cultural thinking differences between the "west" and "east," some ideas about usability, and continues the trend of general hodgepodge-ery.
Miscellaneous Materials will be on a two week interval for a now in 2021. I am still trying to get these old collections into your hands, out of my way, to get back to the last couple of things I'm actually collecting in the present! So, 15+ will be on their way every other week until I'm sort of caught up. As per usual, I've not read most of this stuff. The reason for sending it out to all of you is that hopefully one of us reads it and gets the ideas out into the aether further!
I've been learning a lot more about this note taking idea called "
Zettelkasten" -- it involves lots of note cards and trying to build connection across all your differing interests and thoughts... It's pretty fun to play around with. A bit of work to get going, but seems like something that once you're in the habit of note taking and thinking this way its actually super useful for new ideas and making connections between old ideas ... hopefully one of these days I can get my back catalog of book notes into this format and see if I can finish a few things I never got around to writing or documenting very well...
I did a quick glance over the folder, there are some cool things here:
- 02stoeklgleaning.pdf > Gift, Design and Gleaning by Allan Stoekl. Interesting look into circular designing; thinking in services; learning from nature.
- a63719ed82c7f1213fa950a32099d0ae.pdf > BlackRock's explanation of how they'd start using sustainability as a metric in investment plans. This is from early 2020, the 2021 CEO letter (from just last week maybe?) actually expands on this even more!
- ComputerLibTedNelson.pdf > Computer Lib by Ted Nelson. Oh man, the greatest computer book in zine form ever made. Sort of a cross between the whole earth catalog, punk copy machine zine, and basic computer information as well as Ted Nelson's version of how things should/could be if only we'd all listen to him. If you get a kick out of this PDF, checkout his videos about his "Xanadu" ideas...
- LegalRightsRivers.pdf > Creating Legal Rights for Rivers... woah. I love thinking more about this idea of how we might grant legal power to nature in new, useful ways...
- And some other great PDF gems!
I hope you enjoy at least something from this collection. Happy Reading/browsing.
