Itaú's Brazil banking AI: strong stats, mad users

No new consumer-facing AI agent launches detected today across the 11 markets we track (US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Australia, India) — a genuinely quiet day, not a gap in coverage. One update on reception did surface, below.

Reception update

Itaú Unibanco's banking copilot "ia.i" — Brazil

Itaú Unibanco, one of Brazil's largest private banks, is one of the first Latin American banks to embed a generative-AI copilot ("ia.i", also styled "E aí") as a persistent floating icon throughout its banking app — answering spending/finance questions by text, voice, or image, and executing transactions including Pix voice transfers.

Launched 4 weeks ago (July 2026): Coverage is mixed. Company-reported pilot metrics from a 300,000-customer beta show satisfaction scores above 87 points, service resolution up 20–30%, and transactional conversion up 40–50% in some flows. But independent and user-level signals cut the other way: a Tecnoblog community thread has users complaining the assistant takes 5+ seconds to respond and returns "hundreds of useless options," and a Reclame Aqui complaint describes difficulty reaching a human agent because of an inefficient AI — a direct escalation-to-human pain point. It's reportedly a proprietary orchestrator over multiple LLMs (not a single vendor model), with a factuality-verification layer added after hallucination concerns. Sentiment: mixed.
