Apple's new AI shopping bot warns you not to trust it

No new consumer AI agent launches cleared the bar today — but two of yesterday's launches already have reviewers weighing in, and a platform-reception sweep gives a first look at five AI vendors under the hood.

New reception findings

Apple's mystery AI shopping assistant: still testing, and it says so itself

Launched 3 days ago (Aug 2026): Independent outlets including 9to5Mac, AppleInsider, MacRumors, and iClarified confirmed Apple is quietly testing an AI shopping assistant inside the Apple Store app — a sparkle-icon chat bubble that answers questions on products, orders, trade-in values, and payment options. It's a limited early preview, not a broad rollout, and Apple's own in-app disclaimer warns that generated answers “can be incorrect,” urging shoppers to double-check before buying. Sentiment: mixed.

Scalable Capital's ChatGPT trading feature: praised as a first, flagged on security

Launched 2 days ago (Aug 2026): Fintech trade press (Finovate, ETF Express, ETFStream, Tech Times, and others) gave Scalable Capital's “Agentic Investing” feature detailed, largely positive coverage as a European first — letting ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok trade on a real brokerage account. Coverage also notes the guardrails: the AI can only draft trades and savings plans, a human has to approve every one, and cash transfers/withdrawals are locked out entirely. One security-research citation flagged prompt-injection risk in this kind of MCP-enabled trading as a real, if so-far theoretical, concern. Sentiment: mixed-to-positive, cautious on security.

Platform Watch

Five platforms got their first reception check today:

  • Fresha — ended its long-running free-forever pricing model in 2025 in favor of paid tiers plus a marketplace fee, drawing some backlash, even as it reports 140,000+ businesses on the platform and says its new Google Gemini/AI Mode booking integration is driving strong growth in APAC. Mixed.
  • Booksy — entered 2025 at a roughly $1B valuation after a $70M raise, with a possible IPO floated for late 2026, and recently launched Google AI Mode integration for agentic booking; but user reviews consistently flag poor, slow customer support. Mixed.
  • Bambuser — the live-shopping/video-commerce platform behind 300+ brand deployments (LVMH, Dior, Samsung, Farfetch and others), reporting strong engagement and conversion numbers, though its pricing is a sticking point for smaller merchants. Mixed-positive.
  • Capacity — the AI customer-support platform now has 1,900+ customers, but independent reviewers rate it a middling ~7.6/10, citing a steep learning curve and thin integrations. Mixed.
  • Fuel iX — TELUS Digital's own generative-AI platform, now processing 2+ trillion tokens a year and used by 70,000+ TELUS staff internally; TELUS's own industry survey found most enterprises still lean on human-plus-AI support rather than full automation. Positive, though evidence here is mostly company-published.
