Fin (formerly Intercom) just sold to Salesforce for $3.6B

Fin (formerly Intercom) just sold to Salesforce for $3.6B

No brand-new enterprise launches today, but two small-brand deployments surfaced, one prior launch got its first hands-on reviews, and this week's platform sweep turned up the biggest vendor story we've covered yet. Plus: it's Friday, so a look back at the whole week.

New launches

Fundrise deploys Intercom's Fin to automate over half of investor support

Largest direct-to-investor real estate and venture investment platform in the US, letting individual retail investors buy into private funds without going through a traditional broker.

Fundrise deployed Intercom's Fin AI agent to handle investor support conversationally — routine account questions, password resets, and statement requests — freeing its Investor Relations team to focus on complex investment-strategy questions. Within three months Fin was automating over 50% of total support volume at 95%+ response accuracy (up from an initial 80%), and helped cut case volume nearly 50% year-over-year during seasonal support spikes.

NZ/AU retail investing app Sharesies hits ~70% resolution rate with Intercom's Fin

Retail investing app used by everyday individual investors in New Zealand and Australia to buy shares, ETFs, and managed funds.

Sharesies deployed Intercom's Fin AI agent over email and chat to answer investor-care questions conversationally around the clock, including in 45+ languages via real-time translation, without expanding headcount across timezones. Sharesies' Investor Care Lead reported an almost 70% resolution rate within 12 weeks of launch.

New reception findings

Toast's Google Maps ordering integration gets its first reviews

Launched 5 days ago (August 2026): Independent tech/trade press (Digital Transactions, ppc.land, Dataconomy) covered Toast's "Ask Maps" integration alongside Square's simultaneous launch. Reaction is mixed — commentary and a MacRumors user forum thread note the flow isn't fully "agentic" as marketed: users still must select the restaurant, review the cart, and manually confirm purchase, undercutting the one-shot "order for me" framing Google used in its demo. No reports yet of outright failures or viral complaints; sentiment reads as skeptical-but-neutral rather than negative. Sentiment: mixed.

Platform Watch

  • Intercom — the biggest platform story we've tracked: the company formally renamed itself to Fin in May 2026, and Salesforce agreed to acquire it for roughly $3.6B in June. Fin's own AI agent has crossed $100M ARR (growing 3.5x, now the source of virtually all the company's growth) and resolves 2M+ issues/week for 8,000 customers including Anthropic, DoorDash, and Mercury. Not all upside, though: pricing is criticized as unpredictable ($0.99 per resolution) and independent testing puts real-world deflection at 38–50%, well below the 76–82% Intercom itself cites. intercom.com
  • Giskard — the AI-testing/red-teaming vendor is gaining real enterprise traction: named adopters now include AXA, BNP Paribas, and Michelin, backed by a fresh €3M Bpifrance/EIC grant on top of its existing funding. giskard.ai
  • ILLUIN Technology — the French AI integrator raised $29.34M and now powers Orange's new "Sharlie" assistant for its Sosh brand (projected 3M+ conversations/year), with Air France-KLM and Bouygues Telecom newly visible as clients. illuin.tech
  • Google Cloud — adoption keeps climbing (Gemini Enterprise paid users up 40% quarter-over-quarter, 330 customers each processing 1T+ tokens a year), but reliability took real hits this stretch: an 8-hour platform-wide outage tied to a customer account suspension, a 15-hour cooling failure in one European region, and an unresolved data-center fire in Delhi are all drawing scrutiny of hyperscaler resilience. cloud.google.com

This Week

Four new launches this week, evenly split: two enterprise (Apple's in-house Store app assistant in the US, Scalable Capital letting ChatGPT/Claude place real trades in Germany) and two platform-tier (Fundrise and Sharesies, both fintech apps running on Intercom's Fin, in the US and NZ/Australia respectively).

Two reception findings landed this week:

  • Itaú Unibanco's ia.i (Brazil) — mixed: strong company-reported pilot metrics (satisfaction up, resolution up 20–30%) versus independent/user complaints about slow responses and trouble reaching a human.
  • Toast's Ask Maps ordering (US) — mixed: real independent trade-press pickup, but reviewers flag the flow isn't as one-shot "agentic" as advertised.
