Cyberattack Breaches Heber City's Municipal Network; FBI Assisting Investigation
An October 10 intrusion into city IT systems was contained within days, with no essential services interrupted, but a forensic investigation is ongoing.
A cyberattack breached the Heber City Municipal Corporation's local IT network on Saturday, October 10, the city disclosed on October 15. City IT staff were alerted to the intrusion and, according to a city spokesperson, "took steps to stop and contain it expeditiously." Systems were reported fully back online and secure by Thursday, October 15, five days after the breach. No essential city services were suspended during the incident. The city's public-facing website, heberut.gov, operates on a separate cloud-based platform and was unaffected throughout.

The Utah Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case on September 4.

After the governor's housing adviser threatened to pull $2.1 million in annual road funds over a rejected housing project, state and county officials have patched things up — even as the Utah House speaker signals he's open to repealing the underlying development law Wasatch County opposes.
A weeks-long standoff between Wasatch County and the state over housing policy and development authority reached a quieter phase this week, even as the underlying dispute moved closer to the Legislature. County Manager Dustin Grabau said the county's state funding — including roughly $2.1 million per year in B and C road money — is now secure, after state and county officials met in late August and state officials acknowledged their initial approach was not constructive.
