Bruma Is Open: The Ritz-Carlton's Fog-Inspired Cocktail Lounge Arrives on Nob Hill
The 80-seat lounge opened October 12 inside the hotel's landmark 1909 Neoclassical building, bringing live jazz, afternoon tea, and a liquid-nitrogen martini to 600 Stockton Street.
A new gathering spot has quietly taken shape atop Nob Hill. Bruma, the signature cocktail lounge and all-day salon at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco, opened on October 12 inside the hotel's landmarked 1909 Neoclassical building at 600 Stockton Street. The name is the Spanish word for mist — a direct nod to San Francisco's coastal fog — and the room's design draws from the parlors of Nob Hill's grand historic mansions.

A Chronicle Series Asks Who Still Lives in Chinatown — and Where Everyone Else Went
A two-part San Francisco Chronicle investigation published this week finds that Chinatown's Chinese population has fallen by roughly 26 percent since the late 2000s, as families and working-class residents follow affordable housing to the city's southeast.
San Francisco's Chinatown has long defined itself as a landing place for Chinese immigrants and their descendants. A new investigative series by the San Francisco Chronicle, with parts published October 13 and October 19, finds that identity increasingly describes where families came from rather than where they live now.

Jupiter Room Has Missed Summer and Fall Keeps Slipping — Polk Street's Most-Watched Opening Still Has No Date
Chef Peter Hemsley and bar director Trevin Hutchins have been building out the former Lord Stanley space at 2065 Polk since early 2026; the bar's own website still says 'late 2026,' with windows still papered over.
For months, Jupiter Room has been the Polk Street opening that feels perpetually imminent. The martini-focused cocktail bar from Michelin-starred chef Peter Hemsley and bar director Trevin Hutchins has been under construction in the former Lord Stanley space at 2065 Polk Street — the corner of Polk and Broadway in Russian Hill — for most of the year. The project was announced for summer 2026, then penciled in for fall. As of early October, the windows were still covered in paper and no confirmed opening date had been set.
