It's our birthday today
Hi there,
August 9th 2026 is Are.na’s 15th birthday, so we’re sending you a rare email on a Sunday, with a few bits of news.
First of all, happy birthday everyone! Are.na is made up of the people who use it. For 15 years we’ve built and maintained Are.na independently, with no institutional investors, sustained only by you.
We (quite literally) would not be celebrating our 15 years if it weren’t for you.

Homepage updates
To celebrate being 15, we took the time and space to give our logged-out homepage a facelift. This is a place where we try to present ourselves well to people who might be coming across us for the first time.
One part that we’re particularly proud of is the “Are.na is” section, seen above. We decided it was only appropriate to make our explanation of Are.na a collective one, pulling from the channel “How do you describe Are.na at a party?” where people have been adding their own definitions of Are.na for 11 years.

To mark the occasion of our birthday and give some context to the homepage, our CEO Charles Broskoski wrote a piece for Are.na Editorial, also titled “How do you describe Are.na at a party?” It’s about finding the language to describe what’s special about Are.na, and why an explanation of Are.na could only be a choral and multi-authored.
