Happy New Year from the Alberta Basketry Guild!

As we step into January, we’re looking forward to a slower, quieter season of gathering, weaving, and reconnecting. Winter is a perfect time to work with our hands, share knowledge, and enjoy the comfort of community. Whether you’re planning to start something new or continue an old project, we’re glad you’re here and part of the Guild. Wishing you a grounded, creative start to the year.

We’re excited to share the new visual identity for the Alberta Basketry Guild.

Created in collaboration with Guild board member and designer Autumn Sanders, the new mark is centered on a hand, reflecting the guild’s roots in craft, care, and many hands working together. Paired with the form of a willow plant, it also nods to a material commonly used in basketry and to the natural landscapes that shape the guild’s work. The identity intends to feel approachable and grounded in community, with simple, organic lines that reflect both the craft and the people behind it.

We’re looking forward to carrying this new look into the guild’s next chapter.

Winter Members' Social

Join us for a relaxed gathering in Edmonton on January 10th from 10:30am-2:30pm. With no set project, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends, meet other members, and enjoy some yummy food while you create. Pop in for a bit or stay the whole time!

​You’re welcome to bring your own materials and work on a personal project, or take part in trimming and sorting wild-harvested willow, an important and practical basketry skill. The willow we process will be available for purchase in limited quantities on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment can be made by e-transfer or cash at the social. Please bring snips/secateurs and twine if you have them.

​No gathering is complete without snacks, so we’re inviting everyone to take part in a potluck! More details can be found on the event page when registering.
