Pis and tokenomics

Ever rued the thought: "why should I pay for that? I can do it myself?".

My plan to load Reginald onto his own Raspberry Pi computer, rather than host him in the cloud, has fallen afoul of that DIYer's curse.

First, in a ham-fisted attempt to add a cooling fan to the Pi, I broke it. Only a little bit, but enough to mean my to-do list on this project now includes soldering. Something which I don't claim proficiency at and definitely can't delegate to Claude.

What I read on holiday (it wasn't a novel)

I've been quiet as I've been on holiday. ☀️🍹 As I sat on a lounger, I found myself reading the source code of MikeOSS. 🤓

If you've missed it, MikeOSS is ex-Latham lawyer Will Chen's take on an open-source competitor to Harvey and Legora – the two heavyweights of legal AI tooling.

Chen 'vibe-coded' MikeOSS, apparently creating the first version in two weeks. Looking at the source code, it does reveal some of the challenges of this approach, not least with security. Nevertheless it's an impressive endeavour, and the benefit of being open-source is that the community can help improve it over time.

What strikes me most with these state of the art of these tools is how similar many of them are:

What are AI agents, and what can they do?

As trailed, my first newsletter. Thanks for subscribing, I appreciate it.

The first question I got after launching my blog was "What is an AI agent?" It's a fair question. Like so much related to AI, the term seems to have arrived out of nowhere.

Speaking with IT guru and fellow Society for Computers & Law member Bill Blackburn at a recent event, I was reminded that the concept of agents is not new: systems programmed to take decisions are all around us, from thermostats to automatic doors.
