Greetings, Wrecking Crew,

I hope this newsletter finds you well.

I was recently going through a little box of old photos, when I discovered I had also put my old ticket stubs in that box. Here they are.

Those aren’t the only shows I’ve been to, but they do remind me that it’s rare now to get an actual ticket stub. I miss getting ticket stubs. They help me remember. And I do remember, and have stories about, every ticket stub you see up there.

A few of them:

• Watching Glenn’s jaw drop when Huun Huur Tu started singing. Yes, all those sounds just come from their throats!

• My old friend, Peter, and I got to the Kraftwerk show a little late and since it was General Admission, the closest we got was in the lobby, peering into the venue while middle-aged folks of all colors used the lobby as their dance floor. Had we gotten regular seats we woulda missed that.

• Getting all teary-eyed at the Brian Wilson show. We had good seats and he was so close and I adore him, RIP.

• Seeing The Cramps in the old (S)Limelight, wandering around the venue, watching Lux flail around on stage while Poison Ivy maintained her chilled demeanor. He opened an enormous bottle of red wine — maybe a Jerobaum — and put it in his mouth, tilted his head back, took his hands off the bottle, and just let it rip. Wine poured out of his mouth, down the front of him, puddling on the stage. He dropped down and “swam” around in it, of course.

• The sky was threatening rain at the Devo show. The clouds were low and the barometric pressure was dropping even lower. Such anticipation! No lie, as soon as the band played the last note of their final song, the sky opened up and it was TORRENTIAL. We could hardly see in front of us, but my friends and I made our way to the 6-train to go to Chinatown where we floated down the stairs into Wo Hop. My oxblood Doc Martens boots, which I’d had for 10 years and were finally broken in, didn’t quite survive that day.

Of course I have more stories. I always have more stories. You know that. Sometimes I even tell them on the radio.
