📊 What it means for you: Active listings in 21043 are up 36% year-over-year, giving buyers more options than they’ve had in a while. Homes are still moving in an average of 12 days — demand is real.
🏦 On interest rates: The Fed held its benchmark rate steady at 3.5%–3.75% this month — the fourth consecutive hold — but the tone turned more hawkish. Half the committee now projects at least one rate hike before year-end, with inflation still running at 3.6%. That’s the context for today’s 30-year mortgage rate sitting around 6.5%. The next Fed meeting is July 28–29.

Surviving July 4th Weekend
🛍 Get your supplies early. Coolers, sparklers, lawn chairs, ice, paper plates, sunscreen, bug spray — all of this sells out by Thursday before a holiday weekend. Amazon Prime delivery is also backed up. And while you’re at it: pack the cooler with ice on the bottom, food above it. Freeze water bottles instead of buying bags — they melt slower. Grill staples packed the night before saves you real stress on Saturday.
🐶 Pets and fireworks. July 4th is statistically the single biggest day for lost pets every year. If your dog panics at fireworks, keep them inside, close windows and blinds to muffle the sound, and make sure their tags and microchip info are current before Saturday night.
🔥 The heat is serious. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are all hovering around 100°. Stay hydrated — a glass of water for every drink. Sunscreen, hats, and getting indoors during peak heat (noon–4PM) will matter more than usual.
🚹 Sober driving. HCPD and MSP run increased patrols on holiday weekends. Plan a designated driver or rideshare before the first drink. Uber and Lyft surge hard after 9PM, so call early or expect to wait.

💡
Ellicott City hosted one of the earliest presidential campaign rallies in American history.
In 1840, Ellicott’s Mills — as it was still called — hosted a Whig Party rally for William Henry Harrison as part of the famous “Log Cabin and Hard Cider” campaign, which introduced mass political rallying to American elections. The B&O Railroad brought crowds in from Baltimore, making the town one of the first stops on what would become the template for modern campaign travel. Harrison won the election, delivered the longest inaugural address in history on a bitter cold March day without a hat or coat, contracted pneumonia, and died 31 days into office. The rallies outlasted the candidate.
