Safety Advisory · Countywide
HCPD has fielded several reports of "distraction thefts" targeting older residents in shopping and grocery store parking lots. Suspects strike up friendly conversation — asking directions, offering compliments, even placing "gifted" jewelry on the victim — then use the distraction to swap or steal real jewelry the victim is already wearing.

💡 21043's for-sale inventory just climbed to 82 homes — the highest level in six years. More supply gives buyers real room to negotiate and time to shop around, while sellers will need sharper pricing and staging to stand out from the crowd.

How to prepare for back-to-school — yes, already
HCPSS students head back Monday, August 24 — two weeks from tomorrow. Beat the rush:
| • | Book physicals and immunization appointments now, before every pediatrician's calendar fills up in the last week of August. |
| • | Swing by Stuff the Bus on Aug. 14 to knock out school supplies in one stop while supporting a Howard County student who needs them. |
| • | Start walking bedtimes back 15 minutes earlier each night starting this week — much easier than the cold-turkey shock on Aug. 23. |

Ellicott City's storybook characters live on at a working farm.
When the beloved Enchanted Forest amusement park — one of the first storybook theme parks in the country — closed in 1989, most Marylanders figured that was the end. Instead, Cinderella's pumpkin coach, the Old Woman's Shoe, and Humpty Dumpty found a second life at Clark's Elioak Farm, where four generations of the Clark family have farmed since 1797.
