Safety Tip · Residential Burglary
All three burglaries happened during the day through an unlocked or unsecured window or door — not overnight. Lock windows and sliding doors even when you're just running errands, keep valuables (safes included) out of sight from windows.

📉 The number of active homebuyers nationally just fell to its lowest level ever recorded.
Record-high prices and mortgage rates at a one-year high are the main culprits pricing buyers out. For buyers, it's real leverage: more room to negotiate, ask for concessions, and shop without pressure.

Ease off the gas — school zone cameras start clocking again soon
HCPSS students head back Monday, August 24 — just eight days out. A few things worth knowing before then:
| • | Howard County lifted its old cap of 8 school-zone speed cameras and now allows them across all 172 designated school zones — cameras run Monday–Friday, 6AM–8PM. One driver got clocked at 110 mph in a 40 zone last year. |
| • | Expect heavier morning traffic near schools starting Aug. 24 — give yourself extra time on routes that pass Mt. Hebron, Centennial, or the elementary schools along your commute. |
| • | Buses will start test-running routes the week before — if you see one slow down near a stop with no kids around yet, that's why. |

"Told the kids we're 'easing back into a school schedule.' We are not. We are winging it on day one like every year."

"Watched a guy circle the Wegmans lot for ten minutes to save a 40-second walk. Respect, honestly."

Howard County is named for a governor who never actually lived here.
John Eager Howard was a Revolutionary War hero — celebrated for his role at the Battle of Cowpens — who went on to become Maryland's 5th governor. When the county split off from Anne Arundel in 1851 and needed a name, locals honored him. Only problem: Howard lived in Baltimore his whole life and never resided in the county that carries his name.
