Airbags are the target in at least four of these — they're quick to pull and resell. This is more than double a typical week for us. Lock your car every night even in your own driveway or garage, and don't leave valuables visible.

Skip the swim at Triadelphia Reservoir for now

WSSC Water issued a recreational water contact health advisory for Triadelphia Reservoir on Aug. 18 after detecting high concentrations of blue-green algae (a harmful algal bloom). The advisory is expected to last at least a month. Avoid direct contact with the water — no swimming, and keep pets from drinking or wading in it. Hiking, fishing, and boating remain fine.

Get ahead of fall rain — clean your gutters now

If you're like a lot of your neighbors, the recent torrential downpours were a wake-up call — gutters clogged with a summer's worth of debris can't move water where it needs to go. Clear them out now, before fall rain and leaves really pick up, and make sure downspouts are directing water at least a few feet away from your foundation.

One Ellicott City estate has been owned by the same family for over 300 years.

Doughoregan Manor traces back to 1702, when Maryland's colonial proprietor granted 7,000 acres to Charles Carroll, the colony's attorney general. Its most famous owner, grandson Charles Carroll of Carrollton, was the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence — and lived to become the last surviving signer, dying in 1832. The manor house grew from a modest dwelling into a 300-foot Georgian brick residence, and remarkably, it's still owned by the Carroll family today.
