⚠️ Four vehicles taken in one week, most overnight from driveways. Bring valuables inside, lock your doors even in your own driveway, and consider a steering wheel club. We keep seeing vehicle thefts around Normandy Woods Drive — if you live near there, keep your guard up.

💡 Two of this week's four listings took price cuts — sellers in 21043 are staying flexible heading into late summer. The Fed's most recent decision held rates steady at 3.50%–3.75%, so if you've been sitting on a pre-approval, it's a fine time to get a refreshed rate quote before the fall market picks up.

How to prepare for a stormy week
With a rainy 10 days ahead, it's a good time to double-check your flood readiness — especially if you're anywhere near Main Street or a stream valley. Sign up for Alert Howard County for flash flood warnings, clear leaves and debris from storm drains near your property, and never drive through standing water — most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Old Ellicott City's Outdoor Tone Alert System will sound if flash flooding becomes imminent downtown; know your route to high ground before you need it.

A local mill invented one of the first fully automated factories in America.
In the 1780s, inventor Oliver Evans developed his automatic flour-milling system while working with the Ellicott brothers at their mill here — using bucket elevators and conveyor screws to move grain through the entire milling process without a single worker touching it by hand. Evans patented the design in 1790, and historians consider it one of the earliest examples of a fully automated production line in the United States, decades before the industrial revolution took hold elsewhere.
