A challenging winter and season. Instead of reaching for joy as an antidote, we're reaching for something else.

Dear ,
This is a particularly late Winter Solstice email, for many challenging personal reasons. My family have had a tough couple of months and I've struggled to stay afloat. I very much hope that the coming months will offer some solace and stability that will allow me to show up more regularly.
In this late Winter Solstice newsletter you'll find:
- A practice / sharing from The Mycelium as a belated offering for Winter Solstice
- Ways to work with me in the coming months
- Some recommendations from me of stuff I've been learning from, enjoying and some actions you can take

Winter Solstice and The Long Dark
I've been experiencing lots of grief lately. Both personal and collective.
Grief is something that has always terrified me. As a deeply feeling person, I would sometimes feel as if the edge of entering or accessing my grief was like a black hole I might fall into.
As I learn more about grief, and prepare to train in the art of grief tending this year, I am reminded of the teachings of Francis Weller around 'The Long Dark'. Speaking of how as a society, we have become so focused on 'rising above' and seeking to control, that we neglect the descent.
"...soul is what allows us to experience anything of depth. When we say we are having a deep conversation or a soulful conversation means we've gone into the territory of descent, moving down it's down into vulnerability, into tenderness, into grief, into shame, into wounds. just the whole territory of soul, in my understanding of it, takes us down into what is most human in us."
This is a quote from Francis Weller from a podcast, where he explains all that we miss by avoiding depth. And as my work is about the tenderness of being human, I feel I need to embrace these invitations where I can and want to share them with you too.
This Winter Solstice, I want to share the monthly Home Practice from The Mycelium community membership - AUDIO
This Home Practice was inspired by community input and one of our wonderful conversations during the monthly Community Connection sessions. It's also deeply inspired by my work as a Resilience Toolkit Facilitator (which I recently became certified to Level II in, and continue to find hugely rewarding, important and exciting work to be a part of).
It might be that our minds and bodies can't access the pure 'joy' or 'rest' or whatever it is that we feel we 'should' be accessing. I hope that this invitation / lens might be more accessible for those of us in the depths of stress and grief and difficulty right now.
Here is the audio for the Home Practice, and you can also access a transcript of the audio too. I'd love to know what you think, feel free to message me with any thoughts of questions.
And if you want to learn more about The Mycelium and the nourishing interactions and connections there, please do come on over to join us - it's a pay what you can membership, open to anyone who wants to join.
