🍎⚖️ On Friday, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked a federal court order for the Trump administration to issue full SNAP benefits during the month of November, meaning that SNAP will be only partially funded during the government shutdown at least until an appeals court or the Supreme Court issues a more final ruling. Nationally, an estimated 2.1 million LGBTQ+ adults rely on SNAP.

🏳️🌈🤒💉 On October 17th, the California Department of Public health confirmed three cases of the more severe mpox strain Clade I which were unrelated to travel, marking the first known locally spread cases of this strain in the U.S. Those at risk are recommended to receive the two-dose Jynneos vaccine series, which is still effective against this strain, if they have not done so already.

🏳️⚧️🪖 On October 8th, the Pentagon issued a directive requiring administrative separation boards to recommend dismissal for any service member who meets their criteria for being trans, and allows them to override any recommendations made by the board. Trans service members will be required to attend these board hearings in attire of their assigned sex at birth or will be marked as being absent.

🏳️⚧️🏫⚖️ On Thursday, the 6th District Court of Appeals, whose rulings apply to Michigan, struck down an Ohio school district’s policy against the purposeful misgendering of trans students. The majority opinion claimed that even intentional and repeated misgendering does not disrupt the learning environment and that students’ right to participate in the “debate” about trans rights must be protected.
