๐Ÿ“ท Floating Wish โ€” India

Floating Wish

Floating Wish

India ยท street

A single sky lantern rises into the amber dusk, carrying its tiny flame upward. Below, the silhouette of a tree anchors the earth while the light drifts free.

Sky lanterns are one of those traditions that feel ancient but also completely alive. You write a wish on the paper, light the fuel cell at the bottom, wait for the hot air to fill the balloon, and then โ€” you let go. There's a moment of uncertainty when the lantern wobbles, dips, and you think it might not make it. Then it catches the air and begins to climb.

I shot this one just after release, when the lantern was still close enough to glow against the amber sky but far enough to feel like it belonged up there. The tree silhouette at the bottom anchors the composition โ€” earth below, wish above, the entire human condition in a single frame. It was Diwali evening, and within minutes the sky was full of these floating lights. But somehow, the first one โ€” alone, solitary, finding its way โ€” was the most beautiful.
