A lone mountain rises from a misty lake, its reflection barely disturbed by bamboo fishing structures in the shallows. Everything is blue — water, sky, stone, silence.
I found this lake early in the morning, before the haze burned off. The mountain on the far shore was reduced to a simple shape — a triangle of blue-grey rising from blue-grey water, with a pale sky behind it. The bamboo fishing structures in the foreground were the only sign that anyone had ever been here.
What struck me was the colour — or rather, the absence of colour. Everything was blue. Not a vivid blue, but a dusty, powdery blue that made the whole scene feel like a watercolour painting that hadn't fully dried. The fishermen wouldn't arrive for another hour. The water was perfectly still. I took this photograph and then sat on the bank for a long time, doing nothing, which is sometimes the most productive thing a person can do.
