A single fat raindrop sits at the centre of a green leaf, smaller drops beaded along the midrib. The kind of macro that's easy to find and impossible to take badly.
Indian leaves after a monsoon shower hold water unusually well. The waxy cuticle on most evergreens is hydrophobic enough that water beads cleanly rather than soaking in, and on a calm day after the rain, every flat leaf surface ends up dotted with these perfect little hemispheres of water.
I shot this in a garden patch at the edge of a verandah, leaning down with the camera nearly touching the leaf. The biggest drop sat right at the intersection of two veins, as if the leaf had been engineered to catch it. Smaller drops trailed along the midrib in diminishing sizes. The light was overcast — perfect, in macro terms, because direct sunlight would have turned each drop into a hot reflection and lost the colour underneath. Raindrops always look better in low light. They become lenses, not flashes.
