What a great piece (found via Storythings). I'm also in my fifties, but have been freelance for 26 years. And I swear I think more about what that means and how it works every year, especially in the last few years. And I definitely think there is always more to learn, hence reading your excellent advice. In my field (helping people publish books) I struggle with the work being inherently lower ticket than the kind of consultancy you're talking about (and I've certainly read Jonathan Stark and others) so there's more need for more jobs. Perhaps that's a nut that can be cracked in a new way. As I say, always more to learn.
