- Wednesday, January 16, 2019, 4:30 PM: Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda and staff reports include: a) closed session starting at 3:30: Library lawsuit; b) open session starting at 4:30: Agenda Item 16: Escondido Climate Action Plan Input & Agenda Item 17: Consideration of revisiting the decision to locate the Water Treatment Plan in District 1.

Escondido Public Library
- Read-up on the Save Our Escondido Library Coalition’s comment letters recommending a path forward related to our library: Comments on LS&S Contract and Comments on LS&S Strategic Plan.
- Contact Mayor McNamara, Deputy Mayor Martinez (D1), Councilmember Masson (D2), Councilmember Diaz (D3), and Councilmember Morasco (D4) and let them know your thoughts on LS&S contract and strategic plan.
Humanitarian Aid & Immigration
- Read-up on County OKs Looking Into Shelter For Asylum Seekers, San Diego County votes to support emergency migrant shelters and There Is a Crisis at the Border – But it Doesn’t Involve Illegal Immigrants.
- Contact Supervisor Gaspar and thank her for supporting Supervisors Cox and Fletcher’s recommendations to provide humanitarian assistance to asylum-seeking families. Tell her that you think providing shelters for the homelessness and asylum seekers are both equally important and part of the duties of the county. Supervisor Gaspar voted yes on item #8, actions #1, 2 and 4, but voted no on action #3 to “identify County property for a potential temporary shelter that the State or applicable entity could use to shelter asylum seeking families”. All actions were passed though.
- Contact State Senator Jones and Assemblymember Waldron and tell them that you support Governor Newsom’s proposed budget to include $500 million for “local governments to build emergency shelters and navigation centers” and $25 million for “an immigration rapid response program to assist qualified community-based organizations and non-profit entities in providing services to address this crisis”. Tell them that you think providing aid to homelessness and asylum seekers are both equally important and part of the duties of the state. Climate Action and Environmental Justice
- Read-up on Escondido City Council’s meeting agenda, item 16 on the climate action plan (CAP) & # 17 on consideration of revisiting the decision to locate the Water Treatment Plan in District and Sierra Club San Diego's letter on the CAP.
- Attend the Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025 on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, 4:30 PM.
- Contact Mayor McNamara, Deputy Mayor Martinez (D1), Councilmember Masson (D2), Councilmember Diaz (D3), and Councilmember Morasco (D4) and urge them to support strong climate actions. We cannot afford to wait: see NYT Ocean Temps rising faster than expected. Also, urge them to reconsider moving the water treatment facility to another location that is designated for industrial use instead of residential area.
Federal Government Shutdown

- Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to accept a bipartisan deal to reopen the government. He had voted no on all proposed bipartisan resolutions to fund the government, H.J.Res.1, H.R.21, H.R.264, H.R.265, H.R.266 and H.R.267. See End the Government Shutdown.
