Federal Government Shutdown
- Read-up on Border Security Funding Talks Stalled, Government Shutdown Looms and Trump’s border wall is an ecological disaster.
- Contact Rep. Hunter, Senator Feinstein and Senator Harris and ask them to support legislation for “automatic continuing resolution” (with no spending cuts). Ask them to continue funding the government See Urge Congress to Pass Legislation to Prevent Future Shutdowns and Trump’s Latest Temper Tantrum and the Showdown over the Wall.

New Green Deal

- Attend Learn About The Sunrise Movement and the Green New Deal at Vista Library, 700 Eucalyptus Ave, Vista, CA 92084 on Thursday, February 14, 2019, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
- Contact Rep. Hunter, Senator Feinstein and Senator Harris and ask them to support the Green New Deal, H.Res.109 and S.Res.59.
Health Care
- Read-up on Revised ACA premium calculator could up uninsured rate, Trump Administration Wants New Restriction on Abortion Coverage and Abortion Coverage in the ACA Marketplace Plans: The Impact of Proposed Rules for Consumers, Insurers and Regulators.
- Comment on Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services’ proposed rule to require healthcare insurers to offer health insurance options that does not include of coverage of certain abortion services (among others). Public comments end February 19, 2019.
Immigration
- Read-up on 3 things we learned in testimony on family separation under Trump and WATCH: Trump’s family separation policy under scrutiny in House hearing.
- Contact Supervisor Gaspar again and thank her for voting yes on Jan 29, 2019 to authorize a temporary shelter to house asylum-seeking families. The Board Of Supervisors voted 4-1 to “temporarily use a County property [which was scheduled for demolition] to shelter [...] legal asylum seeking families on a time-limited basis” (item #12). There are concerns about backlash from the BoS’ votes. See North County Immigration Task Force's post with sample script.
Community Involvement
- Read-up on Escondido City Council to start meetings later at night.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and thank them for voting to move the city council meetings to 6:00 PM. The changed meeting times will most likely go into effect in May after 2 readings of the new ordinance in the upcoming months. Note: Mayor McNamara, Deputy Mayor Martinez (D1), and Councilmember Diaz (D3) voted for moving the meeting times while Councilmembers Masson (D2) and Morasco (D4) voted no.
