Plant spirits, part one

27:4

The first video discussing plant spirits is now available on the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV61LV0V0R0

Please forgive the choppy editing. The discussion (I) veered off-topic quite a bit.

This video introduces the series discussing the subject of plant spirits. Discussed in part one are the absolute basics of what we are talking about, along with an overview of shamanic practices and general experiences and beliefs. I realise that this could become a controversial subject, but by the end of the series I expect that all will be reconciled, so bear with me as we explore it more thoroughly than has been done in the past by our scholars.

There are people who offer consultations in this area. I am not one of them. I offer no instruction as to techniques for working with these entities. I am discussing the shamanic practices in order to introduce the most widely-known aspect and because the majority of the information available comes from such sources.

Now, the immediate reaction among many observers would surely be to dismiss this information as being irrelevant due to its source. Given the implications, I do not think this is wise. Much thought has been riding on the legacy of Ibn Sina and regurgitated appeals to millennium-old advances in material medical science, while these mundane bio-remedies have come at the cost of losing the traditional understanding of what healing is and how it is accomplished in relation to the immaterial aspects of reality. There have been various attempts to refute the idea that plants even have spirits on the basis of a Hadith about depicting living things. This will be addressed eventually.
