Postcard 047 - Early Sunsets
I only somewhat apologize for yet another photo of a window.
I don't really know when "the holidays" begin, but Friday, November 17th really does feel like "the last day before the holidays" if you imagine that "the holidays" starts around American Thanksgiving and goes through New Year's Eve.
Like many of you (I imagine), I'm not sure how we got here. This year feels like it's raced by, and yet some days this year feel like the longest I've ever experienced.
Seattle has seen its fair share of early sunsets lately, with darkness hitting us around what feels like 3pm (I think today it was a 4:30 sunset). And while I miss the late sunsets of summer, I find this time to be the most productive of the year. I cozy up with my ideas, a computer, and a beverage, and get to work.
Right now I'm in the midst of writing my Year 03.5 reflection of being an indie consultant (Year 01 and 02 if you're curious). I've realized that my illegibility is an asset as I've continued to find more and more interesting projects to take on, and perhaps even more importantly, new ways of being... professionally.
My friend Coleen writes The Line Between - a newsletter about the process of making her art. As I was reading it today, I texted her to say how much I appreciate she uses TLB to give us a view of what it looks like to do. In a world where so much of what people care about is being done or what you have done, I appreciate how much she opens space around the doing.
As I'm reflecting on this past year and a half and looking forward to 2024, I'm encouraged to orient myself to the things that I'm curious about doing, rather than focusing on what I want to have done.
Stay tuned for some fun new projects launching very soon.
