Postcard 038 - Shared Meals
I've been fortunate to have a friend in town for the past few days.
It's her first time in Seattle, and amidst the work sessions that we've been having (reflecting on 2022 collaborations, planning for 2023), there's been a ton of shared meals. I'm particularly proud of many of the restaurants in this city, not because I had anything to do with them, but because so much of the food scene in Seattle is ingredients-forward. We take pride in what we grow or catch, and it's been a joy to get to share that aspect of the city with someone.
Late last week, I also had the chance to host a few friends in my apartment — the first time I've really done that in the five months I've lived here (now possible thanks to having a proper dining table). While the caliber of food I served doesn't come close to The Butcher's Table or Carrello, there is a unique warmth and feeling of hosting people that I find intoxicating. It's probably a credit to my parents and the complete normalcy in which having 20 people over for dinner punctuated my youth. But there was magic in even having 3 others over for food, wine, and games.
It was the primer for this week, an oversized amuse bouche to remind me how time and space all melt away with the right people and the right meal. As we make our way into the holidays, I'm hoping you all find yourselves in similar places — lost, together over shared meals.
