Postcard 027 - Backseat Views
Tis the season of taxis.
I'm off to London tomorrow and actually looking forward to riding in one of their cabs. For whatever reason, I've had some particularly long rides in London cabs, which has fortunately made for some very engaging conversations with cab drivers. If I wasn't so introverted and under the right circumstances, I feel like I'd enjoy consistently talking with strangers as we meandered around a town (I thank my mother for instilling a love and patience for road trips).
When I'm not depleted from the day, I appreciate taxi drivers pointing out spots in the city, whether it's a coffee shop they like, a place they first met their partner, or a tourist trap to avoid. While everyone may have access to the same Google map, every person's actual map of the city is quite different (sort of like the geospatial version of the difference between kairos and chronos). Learning the origin of these personal maps is something I love (shared Google maps are also :sparkles:).
In New York this summer, I also spent a lot of time in the back of cabs (though far less enjoyable, if memory serves). While the heat and the traffic were terrible, the backseat views were fantastic, and I ended up grabbing a number of fun shots like this one of cityscapes and landmarks.
Yet another reason to be excited about London and the possibilities it holds.
