Postcard 010 - Night Lights
Yes, this is the view from my bed.
I'm about three months into living in my new space, though I've spent less than half of that time actually in this bed due to summer travels. The space somehow already feels like a well-worn home and also unfinished. These qualities aren't mutually exclusive by any means, and depending on the day and the room and the activity, I definitely feel one more than the other.
When I moved in, there were a number of things I thought I wanted to change. However, I promised myself I'd let the space breathe and learn the difference between things that needed improving versus things that simply were new to me (and I could adapt to).
Something that's a bit unique - but I have no real desire to change - is the lack of lights in the space. The only rooms with overhead lights are the kitchen, the bathrooms, and the entryway. The dining room, living room, and bedrooms all rely on natural light (or in the case of the previous owner, lamps). When I moved in, I didn't really have any lamps, but I had light strips. So, in the spirit of embracing what is and letting the space breathe, I put them up behind the TVs and alongside the windowsill. Unlike normal lights (or "traditional lights" perhaps), these lights are programmable and controlled by an app. They have a massive range of color options and allow me to change the feeling of the space at my whim.
On most days, the lights start to turn on around 6am with a bluer, daylight hue and start to wind down around 7pm with a warmer, orangey hue. But some nights, especially if I need an energy boost or feels like it fits the mood of a film, I'll have fun with the rainbow options like you see here.
Maybe I don't need lamps at all?
