Postcard 008 - Fall Layers
It's easy to love the Pacific Northwest in the summer. (Heck, it's probably easy to love most places in the summer, save New York City, which is a swampy mess that no one should go to between May and September). Fortunately, it's also easy to love the PNW in the fall, and over the last two days on Orcas Island I felt like I got my first taste of fall.
I went for a run along the coastline yesterday, enjoying a windy (and windy) road whose rolling hills reminded me of the last few miles up Mount Tamalpais (before it kicks up and punishes you). This morning, I woke up to fog just above the valley, and a breeze that kicked up just enough from the ground to get me excited about piles of colored leaves.
I love fall in general. Boots. Sweaters. Jackets. That's much more my speed.
In the PNW, fall also means beautiful colors and layers of nature and fog as you get outside the city. The drive home today reminded me of the first weekend I had my car, when I drove out to the mountains with my camera, looking for places to pull off the road and meander. On the way to Steven's Pass, I found this U bend in the river and was greeted by the layers I love so much. I sat there for a good 15 minutes, just listening to the water and staring at the snowline.
I'm looking forward to that again soon (but not too soon).
