Postcard 024 - Sauron, is that you?
These sunsets don't get old.
I was out walking last night with a friend and we caught something that wasn't quite a blood moon, but had an eerie red glow that slowly sank into the mountains, and all I could think was "Sauron, is that you?"
I like Lord of the Rings, but it's not a world I was nearly as immersed in as a kid as Star Wars or Magic: the Gathering. However, I found myself working through the Hobbit trilogy recently, which I think I like better than the original trilogy, probably because there's less time spent on war scenes and more of an adventure.
I haven't had a chance to dive into the new Amazon series, but people I know have already started tweeting positive reviews so I'm looking forward to it.
More than the contents of the series themselves, I've found myself marveling at human creativity lately. I've had songs from deep in my past simply show up in my mind and flow out through my mouth, and I see a sunset like this and I'm transported to a fantasy world that someone else created and invited us all into.
What an absolutely marvelous thing that we can create art in so many ways that moves beyond a single expression of it into a multiplayer experience that spans decades and formats. When I start to worry to about humanity, I've found myself more and more turning to creative endeavors as a way to remind myself of the profound things we are capable of.
