Ayden Update - April 21, 2026
Yesterday, the California State Assembly’s Transportation Committee convened in Sacramento to consider several e-bike related bills, including AB2595. This bill proposes a pilot program in San Mateo County to prohibit children under the age of 12 from riding Class I and II e-bikes. During the hearing, Ming shared Ayden’s story, ensuring that Ayden’s voice and legacy were present in this important conversation.
The bill passed the committee, and we are hopeful it will continue to move forward through the State Assembly and Senate, ultimately reaching the Governor’s desk. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Assemblymember Papan and her team (thanks Alex & Cait) for their commitment to advance this effort and honor the lives impacted by e-bike related tragedies.
When enacted into law, we hope each city within San Mateo County will act swiftly and adopt corresponding local ordinances. Measures like AB2595 represent meaningful first steps toward stronger protections at the local, state, and ultimately national levels. They offer a path toward preventing future loss, sparing families from unimaginable grief, and creating safer communities for all. In this way, we carry forward Ayden’s message and his call to Protect Our City.
