Scientist and educator, Yamina Pressler, shares charming and unusual lessons about soil.
Hi! I’m Yamina, a soil scientist, educator, writer, and artist, here to invite anyone and everyone to learn more about soil and nature! I am an Assistant Professor of Soil Science and Restoration Ecology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where I teach and do research with undergraduate students. I think deeply about how we can strengthen our relationship with soils through careful observations and boundless creativity.
I believe that soil science education and enjoyment should be accessible to everyone. That’s what my writing is all about.
I write about soils for anyone interested in learning about soils. Whether you are a student, educator, scientist, nature lover, gardener, naturalist, outdoor enthusiast, artist, or some combination, I hope you find inspiration here. You can learn more about me, why I write, and who I write for here.
I send semi-regular emails (always free, no paywalls) with…
short, approachable lessons on foundational soil science concepts in a series I call One Thing About Soil
observations from my soil-seeking adventures
updates from my soil art studio
writings inspired by soil, nature, and creativity
