we are heading on out of here
out of 2023, off of substack
Hey Mommy’s El Camino readers,
This is the last Camino of the 2023 coming down your drive. In fact, this is the last Camino coming down the substack drive—more below. I hope wherever you are, you’re experiencing some kind of ease in the midst of everything.
BOMB Magazine asked some of its contributors what sustained us in 2023. Here’s my response.
I’m currently fashioning an exit from substack onto another newsletter platform. In the ideal world, it goes off without a hitch, subscriptions free and paid remain in place, and you notice nothing on your end if you’re receiving this newsletter via email. Why? you ask. Here are various sources. It’s (past) time to pull the $$$ plug on substack. On January 7, 2024, my hope is that you’ll be seamlessly reading Mommy’s El Camino produced on a different platform.
In March 2023 I created this newsletter. I published one other essay this year in BOMB online. A few weeks ago, Daniel Miller at the Los Angeles Times asked me to contribute to a story in which he takes a look back at a TIME Magazine cover from 1993 that asked “Is L.A. going to hell?” I was asked to contribute, and you can read that here.
I’ll be taking a week off from the Sunday post next week. Look out for an El Camino in your inbox come January 7th coming from a whole other garage. Thank you for your continued support.
Take good care of yourselves and each other.
