On Revealing/Not Revealing
Look at me/Don't look at me
For all the years I was *very* present on social media I think I had a pretty decent handle on how much I was willing to say or not say. There was something satisfying about saying a little but not too much, or saying too much with a limited number of characters but that also left plenty of room to sound just slightly nebulous. Someone once gave me feedback about my online presence: that it was, in her interpretation, a little sexy, kind of cat-like, a tease of information and then a withholding that kept a reader interested.
When I started experimenting with time away from social media, and then most definitely as I yanked myself out almost completely starting in February 2020, I started thinking more about what I was no longer comfortable revealing.
