marking time
+ a list of books I finished reading, January to June 2023
Welcome to the Sunday post. If you’re a paid subscriber, RSVP for the second FRONT SEAT OFFICE HOUR. We’ll meet on Zoom Thursday, July 27th at 1pm Pacific. The first 10-15 minutes or so will be a welcome and brief Q & A, remainder of the hour will be spent co-working, camera on or off. Become a paid subscriber for $7/month or $70 a year. Founding members receive a 45 minute meeting with me to talk about any facet of writing and publishing they wish as well as a subscription for $250. Thank you for reading!
It might just be the phase of the pandemic we’re in but I’ve noticed, for the last year, that I mark time in all of these ways. By biweekly clients. By when my nails need trimming. When the animals’ claws are too long and all three need trimming. By semi-regular acupuncture appointments. I mark time by annual physical exams that have to happen one year plus at least one day after the last for insurance purposes. By the school calendar, different from my own childhood, this one being mid-August to early June. I mark time in the fall by the birthdays of family: two in September, one in October, one in November (me, the outlier, in May). Marking time by the last time we had our annual party where we invite everyone over to make tamales the last Saturday before Christmas—2019.
